Geminid Meteor Shower 2009 is Underway!
Hi All,
The 2009 Geminid Meteor Shower is underway! We are now hitting the edge of the debris field from extinct comet – Asteroid 3200 Phaethon.
I captured 30 early Geminids from 7:00pm until 7:00am, with my All sky video cameras from my backyard observatory in Dayton, Ohio USA.
I made a still JPG image and Movies containing 10 of the best brightest ones from last night.

This will be a great preview of what is to be seen this Sunday Night into Monday Morning 13th to the 14th of December 2009, look toward bright stars Castor and Pollux in Gemini in the East, rising in the east around 9:00pm and continue looking until morning.
The rates are much higher than usual, and seem to be increasing.
The sky was brutally cold and crisp, this morning at 15F.
I braved the cold to take a look at the waning crescent moon near the bright star Spica as well.
So let get ready for Sunday Night into Monday Morning, but keep looking for several days before and after...as we always see a few good ones a few days around the peaks.
I can’t wait! I hope it stays clear for us all here in Ohio.
Bundle up its very cold, but worth the view!
Best Regards,
John Chumack
