Mars, first light, new planetary cam

Finally got some clear weather last Wednesday night and captured Mars with my new DMK21 camera from The Imaging Source. This shot is processed from 3 videos, RG&B, each about 2500 frames taken at 60 frames per second, through a new set of Astronomik LRGB filters and a homemade filter wheel. 2x Barlow with extension tube, making the actual focal length 8000 mm. Seeing was average. Processed in Registax 5 and Photoshop. Given the seeing conditions, I am impressed with this camera's ability to capture detail and look forward to better seeing conditions.

Much better than the SPC900 color webcam. Also, I am just learning RGB processing and expect that will improve as well. 12.5 F/8 Homemade Truss Newt stepper drive with Bartels scope.exe software

edit: sorry but after several attempts the image, a 55kb jpg file, won't load up. Don't know why.

Hi Dave,

Very nice image, The monochrome DMK's using separate RGB are much better than the single shot color cameras.

As your image above proves! Lets now hope for better seeing!

Best Regards,

Dave; I couldn't figure it

Dave; I couldn't figure it out either. It looks like you can't upload images anymore. I also tried to attach a image as a file, and that didn't seem to work either.

Thanks Jeff! Nice image

Thanks Jeff!

Nice image Dave! I haven't tried Mars yet this year, though it should be well placed for imaging. On this particular evening it was quite breezy from my back yard making imaging of any kind tough. I ended up grabbing a set of photometric and spectrscopic images before calling it a night. In one case (SS Aur) I tried a set of 60 second exposures and I could only use 2 out of 24 source images. Guiding was impossible.

Ack! this weather.
